Salvation and water baptism
Salvation According to Acts 2:38-39
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you , and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call."
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you , and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call."
Step 1-Have Faith In Jesus Christ and His Word, Then Repent!
Believe that Jesus Christ died for you. Hebrews 11:6 says, "He that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."
Jesus said in John 7:38, 39 " He that BELIEVETH on me, AS THE SCRIPTURE HATH SAID, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living waters. But this spake He of the Spirit, which they that BELIEVE on Him SHOULD RECEIVE."
REPENT TO GOD. Be sorry for your sins and know that you need a Savior. God commandeth all men to repent in Acts 17:30 and Luke 13:3. Our sins must die before we can start a new life. So through repenting, turning from sin, giving your life and telling God you are sorry for your wrong a true believer is ready to experience the new birth.
Step 2- Be Baptized By IMMERSION In The Name Of Jesus Christ
Following a death there must be a burial. Acts 2:38 Says Repent, and be BAPTIZED (water) everyone of you in the NAME OF JESUS CHRIST for the remission of sins. When Peter said this he was obeying the commission of Jesus Christ when he said the repentance and REMISSION OF SINS should be preached in HIS NAME among all nations beginning in Jerusalem in Luke 24:47
People get confused when they read Matthew 28:19 which says "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost," People use this as a formula to baptize and also as a basis for the Trinity doctrine. This is not a correct interpretation. This was the commission given to the eleven apostles and this commission MUST be FILLED. Jesus said "baptizing them in the NAME (singular)" Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are NOT names. They are all three titles or offices of God. By saying Father, Son, and Holy Ghost you are not saying his NAME. If we are to do as Jesus said to do then we MUST use the NAME. So What is the name of the Father, Son, And Holy Ghost??
- Name of the Father---Jesus said I come in my Father's name." John 5:43
- Name of Son- In Matthew 1:21 is says "And he shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call His Name JESUS"
- Name of the Holy Ghost - John 14:26 Jesus said, " The Comforter , which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in MY NAME, He shall teach you all things,"
Jesus said in Luke 24:45, 47 That "repentance and REMISSION OF SINS should be preached IN HIS NAME among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
The apostles on the day of Pentecost did as commissioned when they said "Repent and be baptized everyone of you in the NAME OF JESUS CHRIST for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Surely Jesus gave the apostles the correct formula for baptism. Reference Matthew 16:13-19 and Ephesians 2:20
- Philip preached Christ in Samaria. They believed and were baptized in the Name of the Lord Jesus. Acts 8:16
- Peter asked the Gentiles in the house of Cornelius in Caesarea "Can any man forbid water that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? And he commanded the to be baptized in the Name of the Lord," Acts 22:16
- Paul was baptized in the Name of Jesus in Acts 22:16
- The ones that believed in the church of Rome where baptized in the Name of Jesus Romans 6:3,4
- The church at Corinth in 1 Corinthians 1:12-15 Paul asked the question, "Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? They said that Jesus was crucified and were baptized in his name.
- Believers in Galatia, Ephesus, and Colosse were all buried with Christ in baptism in the NAME OF JESUS. Galatians 3:27, Acts 19:4-5, and Col. 2:11, 12
NO WHERE, ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE WILL YOU FIND THAT THE NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH BAPTIZED USING THE WORDS FATHER, SON, AND HOLY GHOST. THEY BAPTIZED IN THE NAME OF JESUS.
Baptize comes from "Baptizo" a Greek word. It means to DIP, IMMERSE, PLUNGE or SINK. The New Testament Church will prove that immersion was the original method of use for water baptism. The ENTIRE body is immersed. No where will you find that the New Testament Church sprinkled or poured water on a person as a form of baptism.. The entire body was submerged in water.
Step 3 - Receive the Holy Spirit Baptism Evidenced By Tongues
Holy Ghost and Holy Spirit are the same. To be baptized in the Holy Spirit is to be totally immersed or engulfed by the Spirit of God. In the Old Testament God spoke of the Holy Spirit. In Joel 2:28 "It shall come to pass afterward, that I will pur out my Spirit upon all flesh." Isaiah said in Isaiah 28:11,12 "With stammer ing lips and another tongue will he speak to this people." John also preached that "He that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear; he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire." (Matthew 3:11) Jesus promised the baptism of the Holy Ghost. He said "John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence", in Acts 1:4,5 He also said in Mark 16:17 "And these signs shall follow them that believe...they shall speak with new tongues."
Many places in the bible we witness the Holy Spirit Baptism.
- The Day of Pentecost Acts 2:1-33 - This was the intial outpouring of the Holy Ghost on the 120.
- Cornelius and his household while Peter preached. Acts 10:44-48
- Ephesus after Peter preached Acts 19:1-6
How to Receive the Holy Spirit
You must first have faith and believe on Him as the scripture has said. Peter tells us in Acts 2:39 that the promise is unto us. You must believe that God is willing to save you.
Obedience to the word of God is next. Acts 5:32 says He gives the Holy Ghost to them that obey him. We are to Repent and be baptized. Repentance is important because we belong to God. Our bodies are his temple and he will not dwell in an unclean temple. We must have true repentance to have true Holy Ghost baptism
We must be baptized in the water in JESUS NAME for the remission of sins and the receiving of the Holy Ghost. THEY EVIDENCE OF THE HOLY GHOST IS SPEAKING IN TONGUES.
All three of these steps are the keys to the Kingdom. These are the steps that we all must do to be apart of the kingdom of heaven. Will you give your life to Christ.
